How does a cavity drain membrane work?

Ask the quotation to identify who is responsible for excavation, floor preparation, drainage connections, any sump or pump, electrical work, insulation and final finishes. Some work may sit with your main contractor. Membrane installation does not by itself mean every part of a basement conversion is included.
Disruption and the finished room
Preparation, drilling and drainage work can cause dust and noise and limit use of the room. The duration depends on the agreed work and access. Wall linings take up some internal space, and extra floor layers can affect the finished floor level and headroom. Discuss these details before arranging other trades or ordering finishes.
Drainage access and maintenance
Keep inspection points accessible after the room is finished. Drainage channels need inspection and maintenance, and any pump needs the servicing specified for the installed equipment. Before accepting the work, agree who will provide ongoing maintenance and what it involves.
Where a pump, alarm or backup arrangement is specified, ask for its operating instructions and the procedure for a fault or loss of power. Do not cover access points or alter the system without checking the specification.
